StemSphere     is an advanced novel technology for the isolation and expansion of umbilical cord blood-derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells (UCB-MSCs) for clinical application. 

   Why Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs)?

 

Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells distinguished from other cells by its ability for homing, self-renewal, differentiation to other cell types and paracrine therapeutic effect. MSCs have well proven in hundreds of preclinical and clinical trials over the last decade.

 

The reasons behind the therapeutic potential of MSCs are;


1- MSCs can divide to produce more of the same type of the cells, which enables the scientists to produce a huge amount of this cells in laboratories.


2- MSCs can differentiate to several types of cells belonging to our body tissues, such as neuron, cartilage, bone and fat, which make it possible to replace tissue damaged cells by MSCs. Scientists are investigating how MSCs might be used to treat several illnesses like neurodegenerative, bone and cartilage diseases. 


3- MSCs free from the risk of tumorigenicity and avoid the ethical debates, as in the case of Embryonic Stem Cells (ESCs) and Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPSCs).


4- MSCs consider as a NATURAL DRUGSTORE of the body by the secretion of hundreds of bioactive molecules that have a strong immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, and regenerative power. Therefore, MSCs consider a potential candidate for the treatment of autoimmune diseases, inflammatory diseases and can promote tissue regeneration of diseased and damaged tissues, that's why several companies have succeeded to develop MSCs-based therapeutic products in Japan, Canada, Europe etc.


5- MSCs is immune-privileged, the body’s immune system is unable to recognize these cells as foreign and therefore they are not rejected. For this reason, MSCs can be isolated from cord blood and used to produce thousands of therapeutic doses to treat many unrelated patients (allogeneic transplantation) which enables us to produce off-the-shelf products without the risk of immune rejection.


6- MSCs have its own drug delivery system and can actively migrate or “home” towards the exact site of damaged tissue by a sophisticated biological mechanism.


7- MSCs transplantation is very safe and tolerable for the therapeutic use in human.
